Industry Curriculum Implementation Guidelines (ICIG)

Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses form an integral part of the Higher School Certificate (HSC). It is widely recognised that these courses perform a significant role in preparing students for a successful transition from school to work. Schools have ensured through sustained commitment that HSC VET is valued by industry, further education institutions and the community.

The quality of vocational education in NSW schools is reflected by the increasing numbers of students taking VET courses and using achievement in these courses for purposes of employment, further education and training or university entrance.

The continuation of high quality vocational education is dependent on the successful implementation of the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). This is a national framework designed to ensure a consistent standard of delivery of vocational qualifications throughout Australia.

All registered training organisations, including diocesan RTOs, government school districts and TAFE NSW institutes must meet the AQTF Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTO's). Each RTO undergoes a process of registration and compliance audits to ensure the standards for training delivery and assessment are met.

A key to the growth of VET participation in the HSC has been the on-going commitment and professionalism of staff. The process of compliance with the AQTF will recognise and acknowledge the hard work of school staff.

Each package contains information that is essential to ensuring the delivery of high quality VET in the Higher School Certificate. Through the implementation of the quality assurance requirements in this package, schools will ensure that they are implementing education and training, which complies with the AQTF and is valued and recognised by industry.
