Industry Curriculum Frameworks Information Package

Vocational education and training (VET) courses form an integral part of the Higher School Certificate (HSC). It is widely recognised that these courses perform a significant role in preparing students for a successful transition from school to work. Schools have ensured through sustained commitment that HSC VET is valued by industry, further education institutions and the community.

The quality of vocational education in NSW schools is reflected by the increasing numbers of students taking VET courses and using achievement in these courses for purposes of employment, further education and training and university entrance.

The continuation of these high quality vocational education opportunities for students in Catholic schools is dependent on the successful implementation of the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). This is a national framework designed to ensure a consistent standard of delivery of vocational qualifications throughout Australia.

In 2001, the AQTF was revised and strengthened. All registered training organisations, including diocesan RTOs, government school districts and TAFE NSW institutes must meet these revised standards. Each RTO is undergoing a process of registration to ensure it meets the standards for training delivery.

A key to the growth of VET participation in the HSC has been the on-going commitment and professionalism of staff. The process of compliance with the AQTF will recognise and acknowledge the hard work of school staff.

This package contains information that is essential to ensuring the delivery of high quality VET in the Higher School Certificate. Through the implementation of the quality assurance requirements in this package, schools will ensure that they are implementing education and training that is valued and recognised by industry and complies with the AQTF.
