"Speech is the birthright of every child." Helen Keller

Educators of hearing impaired children since 1922

St. Gabriel's is a registered coeducational school that offers an auditory/oral education to children with hearing impairment. We aim to develop our students' ability to understand and to be understood in spoken English.

Powerful hearing aids and cochlear implants combined with specialised teaching strategies make it possible for children with hearing impairment to develop spoken and written language skills, so that they can become competent verbal communicators with their families, friends and the wider society.

St Gabriel’s School

St. Gabriel's is an independent Catholic school conducted by the Christian Brothers. It currently caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 without regard to race, religion, gender or financial circumstances. School fees are billed at the beginning of Terms 1, 2 and 3 and are the same as Parish schools in the Parramatta Diocese.

In consultation with students and their families, we develop an individualised educational plan for each student. We offer a comprehensive educational program that includes all the regular academic subjects and integrated speech, listening and language instruction. An intensive literacy program ensures that our students are able to read for pleasure as well as for information.

Parents may apply for special transport between St. Gabriel's and their home; this free service provided by the NSW Department of Education and Training enables children who live some distance from the school to attend St. Gabriel's.

Our objective is to see our students included in regular classes in neighbourhood schools as confident, independent learners. Most students spend one half day per week in a regular school and, when they are ready, their integration time is increased. Our teachers prepare our students for inclusion in regular classes and consult with the receiving schools to ensure a smooth transition. Our itinerant teacher and classroom teachers regularly visit the receiving schools providing advice and support.
